The Birkenhead Tavern

The Birkenhead Tavern has that warm and friendly atmosphere where all members of the family can enjoy lunch or dinner at reasonable prices as well as gaming and bar facilities.

Opened in 1878, the Birkenhead historical tavern is the only tavern situated on the banks of the Port River, opposite the Port Adelaide docks.

As you'd expect, much has changed since The Birk opened in 1878, but it still has its local characters in the front bar, always willing to tell you a few stories, which have been handed down over the years about The Birk, the ghosts and the tunnels, which supposedly run throughout Port Adelaide.

The Birk has a reputation for serving quality meals from its extensive menu at prices to suit the whole family by the Birk's friendly staff, whether it’s in the bistro, the front bar or on the deck overlooking the Port River. 

Enjoy a meal on the Birk's deck where it's not uncommon to see dolphins putting on a show out front of The Birk in the Port River while you’re dining or having a drink.

The Birk has 34 of the latest gaming machines, with TAB and Keno facilities available in the front bar.

The Birk's Bistro/Dining offers an inviting and welcoming atmosphere with a great range of affordable meals for the whole family from the extensive a-la-carte menu, (seafood, steaks, schnitzels, pasta,) or the daily Chef’s Specials Board. All main meals are served with complimentary fresh salad and hot vegetable bar. Finish off your meal with a mouth-watering dessert and a coffee served by the friendliest staff around.
